It's not all about you

You would think as a comedian I think being onstage is all about me, but I dont think that way. Yes, it is my job to make the audience laugh. But that is it, is the job, not the point. Comedian Micheal Jr. Says "Laughter is a gift we present to the audience, they just have to accept it" I love that quote. When I go onstage I really dont think its all about me. It's a conversation I am having with my best friends, they just don't know it yet. And they don't get a lot of chances to talk. Not really a lot different that real life. (Kidding) There are comments on my videos about how I laugh at my own jokes. I am not laughing at my jokes, I dont think I am that funny. I am laughing at the crowd laughing and their reactions. I am truly having that much fun with the people who came to the show. WE are having an experience. WE are having the best possible moment we can at this moment. Thats why people who have seen me multiple times say "You said stuff tonight Ive never heard you say before" That's because WE are living in our moment, and it may never be the exact same moment ever again.
I will always step on stage and Honor God, because he gave me this gift of Joy. Comedy was never about me anyway. It was always about him. Every joke is my life and how he gave me joy through it. My life isnt always funny. The punchline is funny because there is joy on the otherside. None of that is because of anything I have done. I just show up and trust God. I write and write....Then rewrite until its good.
No matter if the room is 200 or 20,000 when you come together with the common goal to laugh it's special. As much as I would love to say "I did that", It's never about me. No comic has ever did anything in a room alone. Believe me, it's awkward to tell a joke in a room alone. For years, I would drive to venues reciting my show to myself over and over in my car or in my hotel room out load. There was no one there to laugh and certainly no standing ovation, unless you count that one hotel in Florida with a palmetto bug.
As I write this, I get excited to be on stage with the next crowd. That one random laugh that's a little later than everyone else, when you have to slow down and wait for the laughter before the next joke, or the snort, oh the snort laugh is the best laugh. A video never captures how fun a live show really is. You can watch hundreds of comedy videos online, but it will never be like the real thing.
I cannot wait to laugh with yall at a live show soon!
