Don't Give Up: Embrace New Beginnings

Updated: Oct 15

Overcoming the Temptation to Quit

It is so easy to give up. Well, I guess it depends on what you are working on or working out. If you have a 30-year marriage or a 3000-piece puzzle, those are very different things. Giving up on a diet is easy when the church potluck has your favorites. Giving up on your workout routine is easy when you are on vacation. Likewise, giving up on your daily Bible reading when you've been on a different schedule is simple. Even giving up on yourself after failing repeatedly can seem like the easiest choice.

But God did not design us to give up. As long as we are here on this earth, there is still time for us to start again. The enemy wants to plant guilt and shame with each time we try to begin anew. We must actively remove those weeds before they take root. There is no guilt or shame in starting over. Even if we have to assertively remind ourselves, “God isn’t mad at me, I am loved, today is a new day,” we should speak those truths out loud.

Embrace the Promise of Renewal

Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the rewards of persistence. It reassures us that we may have a few off days when we are sick or when our schedules get crazy. But this does not mean we should throw in the towel! Instead, we just need to start again, time and time again.

The important thing to remember is that God isn't mad at you. Rather, He misses you. Our lapses in discipline—whether in study, quiet time, or any other commitments—can lead to sin, especially if God has explicitly told us to pursue those activities. This sin can create a rift between us and God. It breaks a vital connection, making it challenging to hear His guidance or feel His comfort when we need it most. God isn’t up there saying, “You better get your quiet time or I won’t help you.” It’s more akin to losing touch with a close friend because we have ignored them.

Reconnecting with God

The moment we sit down in His presence, He is delighted to see us. He longs for that connection. It’s an important reminder that our relationship with God is based on love, not on performance. If we view our spiritual life through the lens of obligation rather than devotion, we will inevitably falter.

As the summer months continue and our schedules shift, take the time to start again and again. Whether it be your diet, exercise routine, or spiritual commitments, honor God in your words, actions, and heart. Do not grow weary of doing good, for He is with you through it all.

The Power of Commitment

Committing to begin anew can be daunting. However, consider it as an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to God and to your personal growth. When we approach our tasks with the mindset of starting fresh, we open ourselves to new possibilities and experiences.

Setting Realistic Goals

When embarking on this journey, it is crucial to set realistic goals. Don’t overwhelm yourself with unattainable expectations. Instead, break things down into smaller, manageable tasks. When you achieve these smaller goals, it can fuel your motivation and help you stay on track.

Seeking Support

Remember, you don’t have to go through this alone. Seek support from friends, family, or a community of believers. Sharing your struggles and triumphs with others can provide encouragement and accountability. You’ll find strength in numbers, and you’ll remind each other of God’s persistent love.

Find Joy in the Journey

Life is not just about milestones; it’s about the journey itself. Embrace the challenges and celebrate the victories, no matter how small. In the grand tapestry of our lives, each thread weaves together to create a beautiful picture of resilience and faith.

In conclusion, always remind yourself that in Him, you are made good. Each day is a new beginning, a chance to reconnect with what is truly important. So, as you navigate the challenges ahead, carry the belief that through faith and perseverance, you can accomplish all that you set your heart and mind to.

If you feel overwhelmed at any point, remember this: it is okay to start again. Embrace it, and honor God with your journey.

About 10 days ago or so I felt overwhelmed. At first I thought this was anxiety so I did what I normally do when I deal with anxiety. I prayed, I rested, I spoke truth against it. I did all I knew
